Sometimes all it takes is a little help and collaboration to finish a construction project.

Brasfield & Gorrie, www.brasfieldgorrie.com, Birmingham, Ala., says it has completed a powerhouse that will supply utilities to the new Airbus campus in Mobile, Ala. The project was led by Honeywell, www.honeywell.com, Morristown, N.J., as Brasfield & Gorrie served as the design-build subcontractor.

The 15,000-sq.ft. facility includes electrical-distribution equipment and a central plant which will provide potable water, sanitary sewer, hot water, chilled water, and compressed air for assembly of the A320 family of a single-aisle aircraft. In addition, the facility will house building management and fire-protection systems.

Along with its collaboration with Honeywell, Brasfield & Gorrie also teamed up with Thompson Engineering, www.thompsonengineering.com, Mobile, Ala., and Burns & McDonnell, www.burnsmcd.com, Kansas City, Mo., to complete the design-build project.

Furthermore, Brasfield & Gorrie is constructing a final assembly line hangar, service building, and logistics center at the Airbus campus site. In May 2014, the general contractor finished the final assembly line piling and foundations project.

Brasfield & Gorrie’s three projects on the Airbus campus have had a positive economic impact on the local community. About $20 million in contracts have been sourced to local subcontractors along with vendors. Nearly 60% of all craft personnel on these jobs were hired locally from nearby counties, which include Mobile, Baldwin, Washington, and Escambia, and nearly 40% of Brasfield & Gorrie’s subcontractors and vendors were local.

The facility was built in less than 18 months, and to Leadership in Energy & Environmental Designs or LEED Gold standards.
