Construction today has to be mobile, and workers need to be able to access important information from anywhere. Software solutions for mobile devices aim to make it more convenient to complete work while on the go.

For the construction industry, Textura Corp.,, Deerfield, Ill., offers its LATISTA solution for BIM (building information modeling). LATISTA with BIM will now be available for the iPad, allowing users to perform work in the field on the tablet device.

LATISTA is a solution from LATISTA Technologies,, Reston, Va., which is now part of Textura Corp. following the company’s November acquisition. At the time, Textura said the deal would allow it to bring more mobile functionality to its customers, and BIM for iPad is an example of this statement becoming reality.

The LATISTA with BIM solution provides construction workers with a way to navigate and interact with workflows from a model while users are in the field. Users can also publish Autodesk BIM models to the LATISTA Cloud, which will allow these models to be synchronized with iPads. The solution’s 3D capabilities let a user virtually explore rooms in the model, even locating equipment and accessing its associated information.

A LATISTA user can publish a model from a desktop design environment. The model is then accessible via the cloud, so all team members can view the information. The data embedded in the model is available to workers’ mobile devices so they can have the latest information whether they are in the office or out at a construction site.

For field personnel, Textura says benefits include the ability to access data on systems and equipment, such as schematics, photos, and operations and maintenance manuals, as well as viewing logs of issues and inspections.

The goal with any BIM solution is to save time and money, and Textura hopes by providing this solution to mobile workers via the iPad, those advantages can go even further.
