BIM Planning and Project Tracking Tools
Construction project management brings many complexities, including owners and contractors dealing with a manual process of managing spreadsheets that can result in a lack of project visibility, an increase in errors, delayed projects, and increased costs. New BIM (building information modeling) management technology opens the industry to a brave new world of effectiveness and efficiencies.
As an example, Viewpoint Construction Software, www.viewpoint.com, Portland, Ore., has released its suite of collaborative project management products, Viewpoint For Projects, including the browser-based BIM Manager Information Planner.
The Information Planner has evolved to allow teams to check and track all project documents including model data, as part of the BIM Execution Plan. Users can now separate all of the deliverables on the project and easily allocate and track them throughout the supply chain at the various work stages. As another benefit of this release, Viewpoint is also unifying the suite’s product name at a global level so Viewpoint For Project Collaboration and 4Projects by Viewpoint will now be known as Viewpoint For Projects.
The Viewpoint For Projects includes document control, project communications, BIM, and mobile field capabilities that automate and better control the construction management process, ensuring the right information reaches the right people at the right time.
With BIM Manager Information Planner, there is the added ability to track information at a detailed level, allowing project teams to easily identify what stage of the work has been completed, including who is doing what for each piece of the model whether it’s structural, mechanical, or electrical, says Rob Humphreys, vice president of global product management. Benefits are being able to easily define who is doing what and when, and report and validate that information, he adds, and this adds up to reduced costs during design, through construction, and operation and management.
Other enhancements to Viewpoint For Projects include an improved RAG (red, amber, and green) Report, allowing users to see where errors or warnings are without opening the model, as well as the ability to locate position using the new Model Viewer Mini-map—a 2D floor plan to improve model viewing and interrogation experiences.
