Capital for Video
As of late, technology companies have been raising more funds to advance technology, bringing more innovation to the construction industry.
Such is the case with Smartvid.io Inc., www.smartvid.io, Cambridge, Mass., which has raised an initial round of capital to expand beyond its initial five charter customers and launch a broader private beta program in the fall. The company is developing a platform for industrial video and photo content from mobile devices, GoPro cameras, and drones.
According to the Smartvid.io’s founder and CEO Josh Kanner (who had previously founded Vela Systems), the company is fortunate to have partnered with leading AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) companies to define its first-generation product. He adds this funding will enable the company to further accelerate product-development process and open up access to an even broader audience this fall.
Companies such as Suffolk Construction, www.suffolk.com, Boston, Mass., are already using the technology.
Corren Collura, CIO, Suffolk Construction, says the organization is generating more high-quality video and photography content from project sites through the use of mobile devices, drones, and GoPro cameras, and by leveraging Smartvid.io, it can handle the massive amounts of data it is generating, while saving a significant amount of time in the field, collaborating with partners in new ways, and providing a superior experience for clients.
Christopher Mayer, chief innovation officer, Suffolk, adds the company sees value in using the technology as an innovative tool that will allow the business to communicate and share important information about projects more effectively with internal and external audiences.
