Field and mobile workers require tools to be more productive, and marine construction in particular poses the requirement for specialized resources. Today’s tech companies bring new applications for significant improvement across the construction lifecycle.

As an example, Trimble,, Sunnyvale, Calif., has recently introduced the Trimble SPS356 DGNSS Beacon Receiver specifically designed for marine construction. With this marine receiver, contractors are enabled with sub-meter accuracy using DGNSS or MSK beacon station corrections for multi-constellation positioning. From dredging and vessel positioning and tracking to bathymetric surveying, this tool is ideal for a range of marine applications.

Beacon applications include consistent and accurate positioning, with sub-meter GNSS capabilities to the marine construction industry for reliable positioning applications, and support for China’s BeiDou and Russia’s GLONASS constellations. And corrections can be received from signals broadcast by MSK beacon stations, from satellite-based augmentation systems, or via an external radio or Internet connection from a local reference station.

The SPS356 features a combination of a compact design with a rugged housing and high shock and vibration ratings for marine vessel installation in harsh marine environments. And the optional internal battery allows the SPS356 to continue functioning through power surges, outages, or interruptions, which are common in marine applications.

The SPS356 includes Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth capabilities, expanding system integration and connectivity options. Using Wi-Fi, the SPS356 can be accessed using any device with a Web browser, including smartphones or tablets, for configuration and monitoring.
