Many construction companies have heard the term “Internet of Things” and the “Internet of Everything,” but what about a “Security of Things?”

This is how Bitdefender, www.bitdefender.com, a security provider in virtualized, physical, mobile, and cloud environments, and Avangate, www.avangate.com, a digital commerce solution provider, are describing a solution capable of securing the IoT (Internet of Things).

The so-called “security of things” solution refers to Bitdefender’s IoT security platform—Bitdefender BOX. The companies have announced that Bitdefender is using the Avangate commerce platform to sell its security solution, which is specifically designed to protect IoT devices in the U.S. market.

Bitdefender BOX is a small device that connects to wireless routers, then scans network traffic from every device on the network to detect and block potential security and malware threats. Users can monitor and customize the protection software via a companion mobile app for Android or iOS.

Avangate says its commerce solution will support online software sales and physical delivery for Bitdefender’s BOX solution in the U.S., including the hardware itself and a renewable, yearly subscription to the service. Catalin Cosoi, chief security strategist for Bitdefender, says with an increasing number of Americans planning to invest in IoT devices in 2015, the company needs a partner to help it meet the demands of this fast-growing market.

Cosoi further says because Avangate will handle everything from the initial delivery of BOX’s hardware component to managing the recurring online subscription for additional software services, the collaboration will help “alleviate the monetization challenge inherent to IoT.” What’s more, the commerce platform will allow the company to focus on its technology and go-to-market strategy.
