Tablets Step Up Features, Functionality
Connectivity, ruggedness, and versatility are vital for mobile workers. And today’s mobile solutions increasingly deliver on all fronts.
Case in point: Group Mobile, www.groupmobile.com, Phoenix, Ariz., recently extended its product offering to include the new Trimble, www.trimble.com, Sunnyvale, Calif., Kenai Rugged Tablet Computer. As an all-in-one computing solution suitable for a very wide variety of field service work, the Trimble Kenai tablet can transport a user’s office to the field, forest, desert, manufacturing floor, or boardroom, making it a mobile tablet for transportation, public safety, forestry, utilities, mapping, insurance, and other outdoor related fields.
Trimble has a history of providing innovative computing solutions to the market that arm the mobile worker with a configurable and effective toolbox of solutions, says Jim Sheldon, general manager, Trimble’s Mobile Computing Solutions Division. With new features and functionality, the Kenai tablet is an ideal solution, he adds, and one that provides even more computing power to mobile professionals—more memory, computing speed, drive capacity, connectivity options, and optimum display readability.
The Trimble Kenai rugged tablet includes a 10.1-inch capacitive multitouch screen with WUXGA display technology to produce high-caliber readability in virtually any harsh environment imaginable. And mobile workers requiring large forms and color-coded information such as technical illustrations will benefit from using the Trimble Kenai while working in the field. Other rugged features include the screen on the rugged Kenai tablet, which is protected by Gorilla Glass for extra durability, and is built with a strong backlight that can generate luminance up to 1000 NITS. Users can type with fingers, stylus, or capacitive gloves, and can control the size of the keyboard on the display, which supports landscape or portrait mode.
Highlighted by the Microsoft Windows 10 Professional operating system, the Trimble Kenai rugged tablet is a fully-functional field computer with a 1.46GHz Intel Atom dual-core processor, standard 4GB of memory, and 64GB solid state drive, upgradeable to 256GB of solid state drive for extra storage. The battery is hot swappable to offer hours of uninterrupted run-time, ideal for long days in the field. If industrial and manufacturing machine connectivity is needed, the Kenai tablet also includes an integrated RS-232 serial port.
Additionally, the Kenai tablet computer meets MIL-STD-810G military standards for drops, vibration, and humidity; with an IP65 rating, it is protected against dust and water. And the Kenai tablet is Federal Information Processing Standards 140-2 compliant for security in a variety of mobile device management applications.
