One of the big technical challenges with BIM (building information modeling) has been sharing data between varied technology platforms available on the market. Now, tech providers are partnering to offer new tools that will ultimately provide increased productivity in the BIM process.

To this end, Viewpoint Construction Software,, Portland, Ore., now provides access to a new productivity tool focused on easily publishing critical BIM information from the Autodesk,, San Rafael, Calif., Revit solution into Viewpoint’s 4Projects and Viewpoint for Project Collaboration project-management systems.

This Viewpoint Revit Plugin will streamline the ability to export Revit design information into the 4Projects and Viewpoint For Project Collaboration environments. The plugin also addresses the challenge of creating IFCs from Revit models, as well as improves the quality of the exported IFC file. This upgrade is key for collaboration efforts of project teams.

The plugin enables: faster and better quality export of Revit design information into Viewpoint For Project Collaboration and 4Projects; easier creation of IFCs from Revit models, as well as improving the quality of the exported IFC file; and improved share, review, and markup of project information for project teams.

Technology such as that from Viewpoint expands integration capabilities to help the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) sector move toward improved BIM interoperability and collaboration. This drives better BIM workflow integration and BIM collaboration with a project’s entire ecosystem.

Additional benefits of the new plugin include the ability to automatically authenticate team credentials to Viewpoint from Revit, the ability to export models, sheets, and schedules from Revit to Viewpoint in one quick step, and users can now easily define which file formats they want to export to Viewpoint including RVT, IFC, PDF, DWG, XLS, and CSV.
