Workforce Training to Support Construction
Construction manager Tocci Building Cos., www.tocci.com, Woburn, Mass., which specializes in VDC (virtual design and construction), BIM (building information modeling), HCPD (highly collaborative project delivery), and IPD (integrated project delivery), has been named the recipient of a $200,000 Massachusetts Workforce Training Grant to fund staff training in leadership, collaboration, and communication techniques and strategies, and lean construction process.
The training is predicted to increase Tocci’s staff ability to team with internal and external partners. This includes executives, managers, and supporting professionals, as well as coordinators and administrative associates. Benefits to Tocci’s staff are expected to include increased job and career satisfaction through continued learning, stress reduction, promotion, and salary increase as a result of improved skills and productivity. Company benefits anticipated include expanded staffing, improved profitability due to higher-skilled employees, enhanced competitive advantages, and increased work capacity.
The training is funded by a Workforce Training Fund Grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant program is administered by the Commonwealth Corp. The two-year program, led by trainers William Ronco and Nick Masci, will begin in early 2016 and end in early 2018.
Ronco is a consultant with Gathering Pace Consulting, www.gatheringpace.com, where he provides strategic planning, partnering, and leadership training to construction companies and other organizations. Masci is a vice president at Haley & Aldrich Lean Consulting Services, www.haleyaldrich.com, Burlington, Mass., and is a practice core group leader with the Lean Construction Institute New England.
“We are incredibly excited about this innovative and practical program,” exclaims John Tocci, chief enabling officer at Tocci Building Cos. “These two words rarely follow each other, and this is the first time the Commonwealth has partnered with a construction company and two leading process consultants to implement such an intense and transformational training program. It will be even more effective because the construction industry is at unique point in recent history—a time when we’ve finally recognized the failure of traditional rules and behaviors.”
Tocci provides BIM-enabled building solutions and construction services with a sustainable approach and emphasis on lean construction, and has a long history of design-build and highly collaborative delivery in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic United States. “Tocci is a good company, and this program, combined with our talented team,” concludes Tocci, “will help to make us great.”
